As someone who has lived with asthma for the last twenty years, breathing better is an important subject to me. Unfortunately, as pollution in the air worsens, respiratory conditions can be exacerbated.
When my friends introduced me to essential oils a few years back, I didn't think they would really work.
Boy, was I wrong!
Essential oils have been used since ancient times because of the ability to provide therapeutic benefits for different medical conditions.
That's why I'm sharing my favorite essential oils for
Eucalyptus oil has shown to be an effective anti-inflammatory agent that can be used to lessen the symptoms of bronchitis and other inflammatory respiratory conditions.
It contains antimicrobial properties to protect against a variety of bacteria and viruses. Eucalyptus oil has also shown to stimulate cold receptors in the nose which has shown to give a sensation of improved nasal airflow. I love a few drops of this on a tissue to keep on my yoga mat, in the shower, or in my diffuser.
Studies have shown that inhaling peppermint oil might have a beneficial impact on reducing the symptoms of seasonal allergies. It helps to soothe the bronchial muscles because of its anti-inflammatory effect and antimicrobial properties. Sometimes I add a few drops to my scarf before heading out the door on a cold, windy day.
Lavender oil is one of my favorites not only for breathing, but also for overall stress relief. Did you know breathing issues typically correlate with anxiety? Promoting overall calm for the body is key when managing breathing problems.
